The Esthetician program At San Diego City College provides students with entry-level skills to pursue a career in the Esthetics industry. Students will learn the fundamental practices and procedures required to provide esthetician services to the public. Course modules are Introductory Esthetician, Introductory Esthetician Lab, Advanced Esthetician, and Advanced Esthetician Lab. Students will also receive extensive preparation for success on the state board exam. A grade of C or better is required for progress in the program. Students who successfully complete the modules will receive a Certificate of Achievement and be eligible to take the California State Board licensing exam. Full-time and part-time schedules are available.

Bellus Academy

Bellus Academy offers a comprehensive esthetician program that seeks to elevate industry standards through the use of premium products and offering in-depth education and training relating to the rejuvenation and care of the skin. Experienced faculty use methods to engage student with visual, verbal, written, and hands-on learning to prepare them for success on the state licensing exam. Through a partnership with CIDESCO, students are prepared for specialized certification in skin care that will enable them to refine their skills and obtain hands-on experience. The training includes European techniques while using modern American technologies.  Graduates will demonstrate competency with the tools of the trade and be eligible to sit for the State Board exam. Day classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Evening classes meet Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Jasmine Beauty School

The esthetician program at Jasmine Beauty School comprises of technical instruction and practical training that covers all aspects of skin care. Faculty will use lectures, demonstrations, and interactive sessions in the classroom to cover the required theoretical training. Course topics include laws and regulations, manual, electrical and chemical facials, health and safety considerations, disinfection and sanitation, anatomy and physiology, eyebrow beautification, make-up, and preparation for practice which includes professionalism, record keeping, and pre and post-operative care. During the hands-on sessions, students will learn how to analyze skin before providing a service, skin disorders, procedures and terminology, application and daytime and evening makeup, and procedures for plain and electrical facials. Students must complete theory and operations with a grade average of 70% or better to graduate from the program. Day and evening classes are offered. The program is taught in both English and Vietnamese.

American Beauty Institute

The esthetician program at American Beauty Institute educates adults in the fundamentals of skin care as set forth by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Students will learn how to analyze customer’s skin care needs, discuss treatments and products with clients, apply chemical peels to reduce fine lines, perform simple extractions to remove blackheads, remove unwanted facial hair, tint eyebrows, sterilize equipment, provide facial massages, and much more. Students must maintain a theory grade of 75% and pass a final written and practical exam to graduate from the program. California Hair Design Academy

The esthetician program at California Hair Design Academy provides students with real world experience as they serve clients use modern equipment and products. Students will use the DERMALOGICA product line and use tools from the extensive student kit. Apart from the fundamentals, students will learn advanced techniques such as hot stone therapy, body wrapping, Jesner chemical peels, microdermabrasion, Brazilian waxing, and more. Instructors will guide students through the educational and interactive Pivot Point LAB system using stylized books and tablet included in the student kit. More than 150 hours of the curriculum will be designated to prepare students for success on the state board exam. Students must attend classes regularly and pass the assigned tests with a grade of 70% or better to graduate from the program. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm or from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm for the evening class.

Paul Mitchell The School San Diego

The esthetician program at Paul Mitchell includes pre-clinical instruction and clinical service learning experiences. The first 262.5 hours for full-time students and 225 for part-time students will be devoted to classroom workshops that will cover esthetic principles, technical information, and professional practices. The remaining hours will be conducted on the clinic floor classroom where students will develop practical experiences in the art of skin care. Areas of study include laws and regulation, anatomy and physiology, disinfection and sanitation, manual, electrical and chemical facials, health and safety concerns, eyebrow beautification, and makeup.
