Students enrolled in the cosmetology program at San Diego City College will learn fundamental practices and procedures of cosmetology services. The training will be conducted in the classroom as well as the school’s lab where they will practice client cosmetology services. The curriculum will cover topics such as fundamentals of cosmetology, rules, regulations, and physiology, intermediate cosmetology lab, resolution of skin diseases and disorders, intermediate cosmetology, chemistry and chemical services, and advanced cosmetology lab. Other modules include basic business practice and state board review. Apart from technical training in the area of cosmetology, students will develop skills in sales, community and client relations, and salon management. Students must earn a minimum grade C on all modules to will receive a Certificate of Achievement and be eligible to take the California State Board licensing exam. Full-time and part-time schedules are available.

Bellus Academy

The cosmetology program at Bellus Academy prepares adults for success in the field of cosmetology. The training includes extensive theoretical and practical training in essential areas such as cutting and coloring. The program will also include business training to open students’ minds to entrepreneurship. Key business skills such as online marketing, retailing, branding, client retention, and financial management are included to support this goal. Technical training on the busy professional salon floor produces graduates who are confident in their ability to service diverse clientele. The practical experience will also support the development of a portfolio and resume for future success. Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion and be eligible to sit for the State Board exam. Day classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Jasmine Beauty School

The cosmetology program at Jasmine Beauty School trains students in most beauty procedures related to the hair, skin, and nails. Lectures in the classroom and practical hands-on training in the salon will cover hair styling, cutting, coloring, eyebrow beautification, nail treatments, health and safety considerations, facials, and salon management. Practical classes will cover hairstyling, permanent waving & chemical straightening, haircutting, hair coloring and bleaching, esthetics, eyebrow beautification and makeup, manicuring and pedicuring, artificial nails and wraps.  At the conclusion of the program, students will understand the laws and rules regulating California’s cosmetological establishments, business management techniques common to cosmetology, and sanitization and sterilization as they relate to various phases of hair, skin, and nails. American Beauty Institute

The cosmetology program at American Beauty Institute prepares adults for employment in every aspect of the beauty industry. Theory and practical training cover the essentials that graduates will use to supply a full menu of services to clients. The state-approved program includes subjects such as chemical services, nail care, salon management, skin care, hair texture, manicures and pedicures, communication skills, marketing, hair cutting, hair coloring, and much more. Students must maintain a theory grade of 75% and pass a final written and practical exam and attend minimum of 100% of the scheduled hours to graduate from the program. Completion of an organized notebook with subject headings and procedure sheets, preparation of a portfolio of completed work, and submission of a typed functional resume and cover letter are also required. Graduates will be prepared to take the practical and theory exam required for licensure as an esthetician in California. Part-time and full-time schedules are available.

Palomar Institute of Cosmetology offers a cosmetology program that provides students with the tools, environment, and educations to thrive in the training and in the field of cosmetology. Training begins in the classroom setting where the goal is to gain the understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of hair, skin, and nail services. California Hair Design Academy

The cosmetology program at California Hair Design Academy covers all phases of cosmetology, skin care, manicuring, and pedicuring. Theory and practical operations cover all practices related to the art of cosmetology. Technical and hands-on instruction will cover laws and regulations, cosmetology chemistry, health and safety, theory of electricity in cosmetology, disinfection and sanitation, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, wet hair styling, thermal hair styling, scalp and hair treatments, permanent waving, and chemical straightening.
