The growing demand for estheticians in Florida means it’s a great time to start a new career in the field. In Florida, estheticians are referred to as facial specialists or full specialists. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation regulates the profession, and while registration is required for practice, you don’t need to complete an exam as in other states. To become eligible for registration, you must complete an approved program consisting of 220 hours for a facial specialist or 400 hours for a full specialist. All applicants for registration must also complete the mandatory HIV/AIDS training which is a four-hour long program included in most accredited programs. The registration fee is $75. The Registration must be renewed biennially and requires the completion of 10 continuing education hours.

Florida State College at Jacksonville

The Facials Specialty Career Certificate (C.C.) program offered at Florida State College at Jacksonville provides theoretical and practical hands-on approach in facial treatments, sanitation/safety methods and procedures, facial makeup application, hair removal and operation of skin care machines. Attendance to the all the program hours is state-mandated – 100% attendance is required for completion. The program leads to an esthetics certificate that will enable students to for licensure in the state.  The program is a limited access program. Day and evening classes are available. Day classes meet Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Evening classes meet Monday through Thursday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. New classes begin in the fall, spring, and summer semesters – based on interest.

Jacksonville Health & Beauty School

The facial specialty program at Jacksonville Health & Beauty School prepares students for the Florida state requirements of a Facial Specialist. The curriculum covers 260 clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all aspects of Facial Technology. It will cover laws and regulations pertaining to facials, as set by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, chemicals related to practices of an esthetician, health and safety, electricity applied to skincare performance, disinfection and sanitation, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, skin analysis and condition, and facial manual and electrical, eyebrow arching, hair removal, and makeup. The applied clinical training will give students the opportunities to put theory into practice. Graduates will have the necessary training to obtain state licensure and succeed in the beauty industry.

Aveda Institutes – Jacksonville

The esthiology program at Aveda Institute prepares students to provide a range of services such as facials, manicures, and pedicures. At 600 clock hours, the program exceeds Florida State training requirements for licensure as an esthetician. Students will learn through classroom theory and practical application of skincare techniques. Various health and wellness techniques will be incorporated into the curriculum. The Skin Care program at Parisian Spa Institute cover 80 hours more than the State’s requirement of 220 hours. They will participate in a tour of the MAC facility and learn the latest makeup techniques. The fast-paced training includes theory and hands-on activities from the onset. Alpha School of Massage

The esthetics program at Alpha School of Massage provides hands-on experience that students to begin a successful career as an Esthetician. The curriculum exceeds the educational training requirements set by the State of Florida to give students additional training required by employers. Students will learn product chemistry, European facials and customized facials to meet skin needs, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, eyebrow and eyelash tinting, eyelash application, make-up application, state laws and regulations, facial anatomy, and much more. Florida Academy of Medical Aesthetics

The Skin Care Diploma program at Florida Academy of Medical Aesthetics exceeds the Florida State requirements for licensure as an esthetician. The program covers 280 contact hours of theory and hands-on training. Students will learn external and internal factors that cause skin cells to degenerate and techniques to assist clients. The clinical practice sessions will provide a caring environment for students to apply the knowledge gained and as they devise treatment plans and skincare regimens to help clients protect, repair, and rejuvenate skin tissue.
