The field of esthetics offers numerous career possibilities. Estheticians work in spas, the film industry, medical spas, beauty salons, and dermatology clinics to help customers look and feel their best. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) governs the licensure of estheticians in the state. You must be at least 17 years of age, have a high school diploma, and complete a state-approved esthetician program comprising of at least 750 contact hours before applying for the licensure exam. The esthetics curriculum will include training in the Texas laws and rules, client consultation and care, aromatherapy, safety, sanitation and first aid, hair removal, electricity and esthetics equipment, and more. The TDLR also offers candidates a dual esthetician/manicurist license for those who complete additional training. Passing the written and practical segments of the state exam is an essential part of the licensure process. The esthetician license must be renewed every two years to continue practice.

The Houston esthetician schools listed below are all approved by the TDLR. Theory and practical instruction will not only prepare you for success on the state exam but also for a career that is personally gratifying, offers personal and emotional benefits, and opportunities to take your trade to the next level. As an esthetician, you’ll perform facials, scrubs, body wraps, extractions, masks, makeup application, acne treatments, and other skin care services.
