There is a strong demand for cosmetology professionals in the Houston area. The recession and unemployment spikes have minimal impact on the industry as consumers place a high priority on looking their best. Since the demand for cosmetologists will continue to rise, there is no better time to enroll in a cosmetology school and make a decent living helping men and women feel good about themselves.

As a licensed cosmetologist in Houston, you can cut, color, and style hair, perform manicures and pedicures, shape eyebrows, apply makeup, and much more. Your responsibilities will extend to various aspects of beauty (skincare, haircare, and nail care), so your training must be comprehensive. As a result, cosmetology programs in Texas must cover at least 1,500 contact hours and could last about 16 months. Your diverse skillset at the conclusion of the program will provide opportunities to work as a skin care specialist, hairdresser, or makeup artist. Cosmetologists also work in sales, research, and publishing. Career benefits are endless and may include financial stability, business ownership, flexibility, job security, recognition, and independence.

You must have a cosmetology operator license, issued by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation to practice in Texas. The license requirements include a high school diploma or equivalency, beauty school training (at least 1,500 hours of instruction), and passage of the written and practical exams.
