The Electricity Career Certificate (C.C.) program at Florida State College at Jacksonville prepares students for entry-level employment in the field. Students will learn through theory and hands-on experiences. They will learn the concepts of AC and DC, how to read blueprints, the use of hand and power tools, electrical wiring and maintenance and National Electric Code requirements. Practical experience in the lab will support the development of good work habits that will help students gain skills required to become a journeyman or master electrician.

Course topics include DC/AC theories; proper selection and use of power and hand tools used in the trade; use of blueprints; National Electrical Code (NEC) in-depth study; wiring techniques; electrical maintenance procedures. Hands-on experiences will account for 60–70 percent of the training experience. There will be an emphasis on safety in the lab and on the project site. Students must complete the required number of clock hours and earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (grade C) on all courses to graduate from the program. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be qualified to enter the electrical industry as an electrical helper. The program is delivered on a full-time basis only.

Florida Career College

The Electrical Training Program at Florida Career College provides students with a solid foundation in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Students will also learn how to read and understand blueprints, estimates, and building codes. The program also introduces students to motor controls, programmable logic controls, low voltage applications, and solar systems. Course topics include basic safety, commercial applications, low voltage applications, introduction to electrical theory, flexible cables/conduit bending and raceways, residential applications, motor and industrial motor controls, programmable logic controls, and solar electrical applications. Coursework is delivered through online and in-class learning. Students must earn a minimum grade C to graduate from the program.
