The Welding Technology Career Certificate program at Florida State College at Jacksonville prepares students for careers in various industries including automobile manufacturing, aerospace, power plants, paper mills, shipbuilding, construction, and more. The program includes hands-on training in the necessary skills required for a successful career. Areas of study include workplace safety and organizations, basic manufacturing processes, basic interpretation of welding symbols, oxyfuel gas cutting practices, basic shielded metal arc welding, carbon arc gouging principles, visual examination skills, basic and intermediate flux-core arc welding, and basic and intermediate gas tungsten arc welding, and basic understanding of pipe welding. Graduates will be prepared to meet numerous industry standards and to be prepared for practical certificate examinations. They will also be qualified for a position as an entry-level welding technician.

Southeastern Welding School

The welding program at Southeastern Welding School is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the industry. The training incorporates hands-on training to aid the development of skills that employers want. It covers a total of 230 contact hours. Areas of study include safety and OSHA standards, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Cored Arc Welding, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. Students will also benefit from job placement assistance which may include student counseling, interviewing skills, testing procedures, and contacting local welding companies that may be hiring.  They must obtain a minimum grade average of 70% and complete a minimum of 249 clock hours to graduate. Classes meet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Tulsa Welding School

The Professional Welder program at Tulsa Welding School prepares students for a career as a welder. Students will learn in an interactive workshop and welding booths. They will be trained in structural welding, shielded metal arc welding, metal inert gas welding, pipe welding, tungsten inert gas welding, high frequency TIG welding, thin alloy welding, and fluxcore welding and pipe welding. Apart from technical skills, students will also be prepared to excel in job interviews and weld tests for various welding certifications. Morning, afternoon, and evening schedules are available.

  • Submit a completed application for admission
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED – applicants without a high school diploma must pass a three-part independently administered, nationally standardized test (ACCUPLACER)
  • Complete review and execution of an enrollment agreement
  • Provide government issued identification
  • Must have good eyesight with corrective lenses if needed
  • Must be capable of dealing with the physical requirements in the welding profession such as lifting and necessary body motions

The program cost of $22,800 includes tuition, technology fee, lab fees, books, gear package, and accident insurance.

Indian River State College

Indian River State College offers an affordable option for persons seeking to become a professional welder. Students enrolled in the program will learn the most common welding techniques—Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)—while studying basic layout and material usage, industry quality standards, safety requirements and interpretation of blueprint drawings.  The training include theory but is primarily hands-on to prepare students for immediate employment. The curriculum will cover a total of 1050 contact hours. Courses are delivered in sequence and includes competency based applied learning designed to accomplish academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Course modules include introduction to welding, shielded metal arc welding principles, welding symbols and blueprints, fundamentals of metallurgy, welding symbols and blueprints, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding principles, welding fabrication fundamentals, and welding certification prep. Students have the opportunity to obtain AWS certifications for multiple alloys, structural and pipe. Exams are offered at the end of the program.

Florida Gateway College

The Welding Technologies program at Florida Gateway College provides students with the opportunity to earn two program certificates. The first 1,050 hours covers the Welding Technologies course which covers SMAW(stick), GMAW (mig), GMAW-P (pulsed mig), FCAW (flux core), GTAW (tig), and GTAW-P (pulsed tig) all on plate thickness from razor blade (.040) to one inch. Upon completion of the Welding Technology course, students can choose to continue training with our 750-hour Advanced Welding Technologies course. The advanced course covers all the same welding processes covered in the welding technologies course on 40 and 80 pipes. FGC is LEEPS (Lincoln Electric Education Partner School) which gives students the opportunity to train on the latest welding equipment available in the Lab, including Real Weld Trainer. They will also learn using virtual reality welders as well as a Robotic Educational Cell.
