HVAC certificate programs cover the skills required for immediate employment in the field. Moreover, the training covered may be transferred to a degree program if you decide to take your profession to the next level. More accredited programs include preparation for EPA, OSHA, and other national certifications. You may also apply for licensure through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (Registered ACR Technician License). Upon licensure and certification, there will be no shortage of jobs in commercial, industrial, and residential facilities where you will work with other technicians to install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems.

Austin Community College

The HVAC program at Austin Community College has a fast-track option that lets students prepare for an in-demand career certificate that employers want. The program prepares students to install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems using the latest industry equipment. The certificate program covers 28 credit hours. Course modules include basic electricity for HVAC, air conditional control principles, refrigeration principles, residential air conditioning, gas and electric heating, advanced electricity for HVAC, and internship – HVAC maintenance technology technician. Students will receive extensive hands-on experience throughout the program. The duration of the program is one year. Graduates may apply the credits earned to the HVAC Associate of Applied Science Degree. They will be ready to take a professional certification exam.

Austin Career Institute

The HVAC Certificate Program at Austin Career Institute prepares students for licensure through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (Registered ACR Technician License) and employment as an HVAC technician. Theory and hands-on instruction covers concepts of health transfer and flow measurement, basic algebra and geometry related to the measurement of lines, area, volume and weights, safety equipment used in the installation and maintenance of residential and commercial HVAC systems, interpretation of wiring diagrams and blueprints, types of tubing and fittings used in the HVAC industry, industry paperwork and recordkeeping methods, principles of condensation, evaporation and compression as they related to refrigeration, and much more. Graduates may apply for EPA license. New classes begin every month.

Southern Careers Institute

The HVAC program at SCI covers residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. NCCER certified instructors prepare students to sit for the nationally-recognized certification exams sought by Texas employers. Students will receive hands-on training with a variety of materials and systems including ventilation systems, copper and plastic piping, soldering and brazing, chimneys, vents, and flues. Practical skills will cover the installation, maintenance, and repair of essential temperature control equipment found in homes and businesses, and safety skills in the use of hand and power tools. Course topics include trade safety, construction basics, introduction to HVAC, heating and cooling, venting and ducting, HVAC electrical, troubleshooting, hydronics, commercial and industrial, air quality and energy conservation, crew leadership and placement, and diagnostics and maintenance. Graduates will be prepared to sit for several nationally recognized exams including NCCER Core Certification, NCCER HVAC Level I Certification, NNCER HVAC Level II Certification, EPA Certification, IAQ Certification, NATE Ready to Work Certificate, and much more.

Cybertex Institute of Technology

The HVAC program at Cybertex Institute of Technology prepares students for EPA certification from the US Environmental Protection Agency and entry-level employment as an HVAC technician. Students will also cover for other certifications such as green awareness, system performance, duct and envelope testing, R-410A, gas heat, system diagnostics and troubleshooting, basic refrigeration and charging procedures, and hydrocarbon refrigerants. It combines hands-on training with industry knowledge with an emphasis on the skills that employers seek. Course topics include safety and shop practices, basic electricity, basic refrigeration, brazing, soldering and piping, air conditioning, heating, sheet metal fabrication and duct systems, commercial HVAC, commercial refrigeration, and supervisory skills and crew leadership.  Flexible day and evening classes are available. New classes begin every month.

Central Texas AC & Refrigeration School

The HVAC certificate training at Central Texas AC & Refrigeration School is a fast-track option that gets students job ready in just 2 weeks. The program will cover not only the HVAC fundamentals, but also basic work-safety practices, service troubleshooting, and repair and maintenance of HVAC systems in the training facility. Course topics include service tools and instruments, refrigerants, meters, refrigeration tools and materials, servicing room air conditions, brazing and soldering techniques, fundaments of refrigeration compression, temperature and pressure measurements, transforms, magnetism, thermostats, refrigeration system and terms, servicing room air conditions, chilled water systems and more. Experienced faculty will supervise hands-on activities and provide personalized instruction to ensure students receive the best training. Classes meet six days per week for 10 hours each day. Due to the accelerated pace of the program, students are expected to attend all classes. Graduates will be eligible to apply for national certification. CTARS holds a certificate of approval through the Texas Workforce Commission. Day, evening, and weekend classes are available.

Skillpoint Alliance Austin

Skillpoint’s HVAC program provides both basic construction training and Level One HVAC Tech training. Students will first complete the Construction Fundamentals (such as construction math, tool safety, and job site safety) then move into the curriculum specific to the HVAC trade. Course topics include building codes, pipe fittings, diagnosing malfunctions, and air duct systems. Hands-on activities and classroom instruction will also cover aspects of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Graduates will sit for the Environmental Protection Agency 608 Universal exam. Students will obtain their OSHA 10 certification during the program and applicants apply for the HVAC Registered ACR Technician License from the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR).

Central Texas College

The HVAC Certificate of Completion at Central Texas College helps students develop the skills for immediate employment. The school also offers an Associate Degree Program that provides additional specialized coursework with general academic courses. Students will be prepared for careers in residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration through classroom sessions and industry-validated hands-on instruction using current technologies and equipment. Course topics include refrigeration principles, basic electricity for HVAC, gas and electric heating, air conditioning control principles, residential air conditioning, air conditioning installation and startup, heat pumps, commercial air conditioning, commercial refrigeration, air conditioning troubleshooting, advanced electricity for HVAC, and residential air conditioning system design. Graduates will be eligible to apply for national certification.
