If you’re passionate about skincare and beauty, a career as an esthetician could be quite rewarding. Your duties as an esthetician will include client consultation, skin analyses, waxing, and recommending products and treatment plans based on skin types. The multitude of esthetician schools in Chicago testifies to the size of the industry and the opportunities available for new graduates.

Accredited esthetician programs in Illinois must comprise of at least 750 hours of study. The typical completion time is 22 weeks – based on full-time attendance. State-approved educational programs are the only acceptable route to licensure. Students are expected to develop competency in services that fall within the scope of practice for estheticians. These services include chemical peels, eyelash extensions, eyebrow tinting, body treatments, hair removal and waxing, spa treatments, microdermabrasion therapy, and spray on cosmetics. In order to encourage entrepreneurship and professionalism, business practices such as marketing, ethics, hygiene, safety, and communication are an essential part of the curriculum. The esthetician licensure exam comprises of written and practical assessments. It is set by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Esthetician and administered by Continental Testing Services. The Board will issue a license once you pass the exam and meet all other requirements for licensure. The renewal period is every two years and requires completion of at least 10 hours of continuing education.

The esthetics program course at John Amico School of Hair Design covers up-to-date education to prepare students for a career in skin care.
