The Electrical Training Program offered by California Electrical Training teaches students the essentials required to work as an Electrical Trainee under a contractor. Southern California Institute of Technology

SCIT’s General Electrician program covers installation and maintenance techniques for residential, commercial and industrial electrical systems based on the national electrical code (NEC). Students will learn residential electrical installation, commercial electrical installation, and industrial electrical installation in the classroom and lab. Skill building projects will provide opportunities to learn electrical installation in a practical way. Experienced faculty will cover special electrical programs such as renewable energy installation, low voltage electrical installations, and other topics related to the industry. Core modules include electricity fundamentals, National Electrical Code, electric motors, and Programmable Logic Controller. The General Electrician curriculum is approved by the State of California, so students will be eligible to register with the state as an Electrician Trainee.  Graduates may be eligible to enroll in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering at SCIT. Los Angeles Trade Technical College

LATTC offers an Electrical Construction and Maintenance Construction Technologies program to help students prepare for a career as an Electrician. Two pathways are available – one that leads to an Associate of Science degree and one that leads to a Certificates of Achievement. Full-time attendance for students who plan to pursue the AS degree as classroom and lab activities account for 24 hours and outside work requires an additional 12 hours. An Associate in Arts degree is available for persons who are already employed in the field and want to expand their skills. The AA is offered in an evening only schedule. Students will learn how to use electrical tools and equipment in accordance with industry and safety standards, perform electrical mathematical problems, and interpret information from the National Electrical Code.

Long Beach City College

Long Beach City College prepares Electrical Technology students for entry-level employment in the electrical field. Students will learn how to install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment according to established standards. They will learn to lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities in the school’s modern Electrical Technology facilities. The program is approved by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and also meets the standards established by the California Department of Apprenticeship Standards for California Electrician Certification testing. Graduates will be eligible to take the Electrician’s Certification Exam.
