Southern Careers Institute

The electrical technician program at Southern Careers Institute helps students acquire the on-the-job training hours required for Texas state licensing. It includes hands-on instruction on the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems for residential and commercial properties. Students will learn the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of electronics and electrical wiring, handling of electrical distribution panels, instrumentation, DC/AC motors and controls, wiring, and power transmissions, and safety skills, generating estimates, inspections and applicable codes, and regulations. The program provides some but not all the hours required for residential wireman. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level employment working under a master electrician and wiring installers or as technicians servicing electrical systems.

Austin Community College

An Electrical Construction Certificate is awarded as part of the professional construction training offered by the Construction Trades Academy as Austin Community College. Students will receive professional-level education that includes hands-on instruction in concrete-making, woodworking, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Students will develop skills to become a construction project manager, including blueprint reading, cost estimating, and construction scheduling. Professors are accomplished professionals who bring their years of experience to the classroom and prepares students to become competent and safe workers. Students must earn a minimum B grade in each course and maintain an overall ACC GPA of 2.5 or higher to graduate from the program. Graduates will receive a Carpentry Specialization Certificate and an Electrical Construction Certificate.

Austin Career Institute

The Electrician Certificate Program at Austin Career Institute is approved by the Texas Workforce Commissions. It includes hands-on and comprehensive academic instruction to prepare students for entry-level employment. Experienced faculty will cover commercial wiring, grounding electrical, programmable controllers, tech electrical arc welding, fiber optic electrical, conduit bending for electrical, standard first aid, and much more. Hands-on training will focus on existing codes and regulations, safety skills, operation, installation, maintenance and repair of electronics and electrical wiring, supervising inspections and generating estimates, and managing electrical distribution panels, power transmissions, AC/DC motors, and controls. Graduates may qualify for entry-level employment as a master electrician, as wiring installers, or technicians serving electrical systems in a residential or commercial environment. New classes begin every month.
